Discover Handy nest box Tips from Our Trusted Supplier, Henry Bell! 🐦🐦⬛It’s National Nest Box Week on 14 – 21 February. Now’s the time to pop up a nest box or two in your garden to really support your wild birds as natural cavities and holes are becoming much harder to find. Here are some top tips to help you place them in the very best spot for healthy and happy birds:1 – If your garden isn’t shaded by surrounding trees or buildings, angle the entrance hole so that it is pointing towards the north or east to help avoid prevailing wind and rain. You should also tilt the nest box slightly downwards to prevent rain from entering.2 - Don’t site nest boxes close to one another, as this can lead to squabbles and aggressive behaviour between neighbours.3 – Place open-fronted nest boxes on a wall or fence that has shrubs and creepers growing against it.4 – Avoid concealing a small-hole nest box with too much foliage. You can put them on a tree trunk, but the sides of a shed or wall are also good options. 5 – Ensure that your nest box cannot be accessed by predators such as cats and squirrels. 6 – Site nest boxes away from bird feeders, as high levels of visiting birds can really disturb those that are nesting. Henry Bell Wild Bird Care has a brilliant range of nest boxes with small hole and open fronted entrances.
